Supreme Allied Commander Europe / President Eisenhowers waarschuwing tegen het Military-Industrial Complex in zijn afscheidsspeech - 1961
Het militair-industrieël complex, een problematisch begrip in bijna alle kringen behalve het militair-industrieël complex zelf. President Eisenhower bovenstaand tijdens zijn afscheidsspeech in 1961:
"Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. (...) In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. (...) Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
Feit blijft natuurlijk dat in een conventionele oorlog tussen twee grootmachten, degene met het superieure militair-industrieël complex en een toereikende demografie wint. Het wordt bijvoorbeeld wel eens gezegd dat de Sovjetunie in zijn hoogtijdagen een Europese, conventionele oorlog tegen de NAVO gewonnen zou hebben.
